9/13 Zion

We hiked the Virgin River slot canyon. The locals all recommended renting funny looking water hiking boots and hiking sticks. We did and were very glad. We hiked and almost swam at times, about 2 ½ miles up river. The canyon narrowed to about 40’ across and at least 1000 feet up. We cooked a quick dinner and hiked out at dusk. We may have been the last ones out. Incredible natural beauty.

Thanks to Rich and Nicole for the Park guidebooks. These have both been very well used and added to the fun of the trip.

Dear Tom & Cam, Being somewhat of a neophyte about blogging, I clicked on your site on my desktop and only saw 9/7 entry. Fearing you had careened over the edge of a canyon, I went back to your original email, clicked on the site again and was relieved to see you were both alive and well. That's about as exciting as it gets around here! Your pics are fabulous - I am quite jealous! Keep good notes - we may want them when we go back to "big" vacations. Today was quite hot - tomorrow possibly some rain due to "Ophelia". Both boys doing well at college - we'll be away to Columbus, OH on 9/29-10/2 for Sarah's Z's wedding, Earlham 10/7-9 and Oberlin Nov. 11-13 for parent's weekends. We're starting to work on our wardrobes now so we don't look too nerdy....Love to you both, Kathy
